Kyle Whittingham reflected on officially being hired as the Michigan Wolverines new head coach on Friday. "I’m honored to be the coach at this great university. Can’t wait to get working with our players and get Michigan football back to where it should be."
Whittingham agreed to a five-year and $41 million deal to be the 22nd head coach in Michigan history. Following a great run as the Utah Utes head coach for more than two decades, Whittingham will try to lead the Wolverines to success in the coming years.
"We are honored to lead the outstanding student athletes, coaches, and staff who represent Michigan each day," Whittingham explained in a press release per Michigan Athletics. "Michigan is synonymous with tradition and excellence on the field and beyond."
It will be important for Whittingham to retain players like quarterback Bryce Underwood, running back Jordan Marshall, wide receiver Andrew Marsh, linebacker Jimmy Rolder and safety Brandyn Hillman, as he tries to build a competitive roster for 2026.
There likely won't be any official announcements until after Michigan faces the Texas Longhorns in the 2025 Citrus Bowl on December 31 but rumors indicate that Whittingham could bring Utah offensive coordinator Jason Beck and other coaches to Michigan as well.
