Michigan Wolverines quarterback Bryce Underwood has impressed in the first month of his freshman year and continues to live up to the lofty expectations that came with being the highest rated recruit in 2025! The former 5-star prospect put up 733 passing yards and two touchdowns in four games, leading Michigan to a 3-1 record and a 1-0 start in Big Ten play.
In addition to elevating a struggling passing attack, the Wolverines freshman quarterback made a major impact on the ground by racking up 169 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 7.7 yards per carry. Underwood totaled 339 yards and three touchdowns including 114 rushing yards in a recent blowout win, the most for a Michigan quarterback since 2013.
There’s room for improvement as Underwood needs to increase his accuracy and avoid turnovers but he’s already one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the Big Ten — and his future is simply as bright as it gets. “He has the green light because he's one of the great playmakers in the country,” Michigan associate head coach Biff Poggi revealed to the media this month.
Underwood became the fourth true freshman to start at quarterback for the Wolverines and his next-level potential has been on full display in the early stages of his career. Following a bye week, Michigan returns to the field against the Wisconsin Badgers with an opportunity to remain unbeaten at home and improve to 2-0 in the conference on Saturday afternoon.
