Below are five free agent signings to keep an eye on!
Trent Williams (San Francisco 49ers): Despite not playing in 2019, Williams returned as one of the NFL's top offensive tackles a year ago and will hope to keep that momentum going in San Francisco this coming season. He signed a 6-year, $138 million deal with the 49ers on March 23, 2021, making him the highest-paid offensive tackle in the league. The 32-year-old will make sure to protect Jimmy Garoppolo (or Trey Lance) as the 49ers hope to return to the playoffs.
Kenny Golladay (New York Giants): After being drafted by Detroit late in the third round in 2017, Golladay immediately started showing signs of being a potential top receiver. He earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2019, recording 65 receptions for 1,190 yards and 11 touchdowns in 16 games, before missing time in 2020 due to a hamstring injury. Golladay has the athleticism, size, and speed to take the Giants offense to another level. New York signed him to a 4-year, $72 million contract.
Joe Thuney (Kansas City Chiefs): Not only has Thuney improved his technique and strength with the Patriots but he has also yet to miss a game in five seasons. The 6'5 offensive guard signed a 5-year deal worth $80 million with the Chiefs on March 18, 2021. Kansas City desperately needed to refine their offensive line after getting blown out in the Super Bowl, and they made sure to do so by drafting Creed Humphrey, trading for Orlando Brown, and signing Thuney.
JJ Watt (Arizona Cardinals): Even though Watt has been battling injuries for the majority of the last few years, he was one of only two defensive linemen to account for more than 1,000 snaps in 2020. Watt is a surefire Hall of Fame inductee after racking up three Defensive Player of the Year awards but he wants to continue competing in the playoffs before deciding to retire. He'll join an improved defense alongside Budda Baker, Malcolm Butler, Chandler Jones, and others.
John Johnson III (Cleveland Browns): Jadeveon Clowney and Takkarist McKinley made major headlines after they signed with the Browns but Johnson could very well be the most impactful addition to Cleveland's defense. He was an elite safety during four years with the Rams, compiling 350 tackles, 32 pass deflections, and eight interceptions in 54 appearances. The 6'1 free safety joins a loaded Browns defense after signing a 4-year, $34 million contract in mid-March.
