The Los Angeles Dodgers took down the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 in Game 7 of the World Series on Saturday, capturing a second consecutive championship and becoming the first franchise to repeat since 2000!
It was an unforgettable game that will go down in World Series lore as the Dodgers hit a game-tying home run in the ninth inning before prevailing with a memorable pitching performance in extra innings.
It appeared the Blue Jays were going to win their first World Series since 1993 until a clutch solo home run from Dodgers second baseman Miguel Rojas saved the day and tied the game 4-4 in the ninth inning.
Los Angeles forged ahead for the first time all game when catcher Will Smith drilled a go-ahead home run to seize a 5-4 lead in the 11th inning and Toronto was unable to score a game-tying run of their own.
The Blue Jays had a chance to tie it but Los Angeles pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto got the final eight outs to seal the win, just one day after throwing 96 pitches in a Game 6 win, en route to winning MVP honors.
Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts and first baseman Freddie Freeman officially clinched the title with a game-ending double-play, cementing their legacies as all-time greats and sure-fire future Hall of Famers.
Los Angeles star hitter and pitcher Shohei Ohtani also continues to build his résumé as one of the best players in MLB history after winning two World Series titles and NL MVP awards in the last two years.
