CFB: Top-5 Stadiums in the Country

The colossal cathedrals that play host to many football games are dear to the hearts of many fans. To be a good stadium, you don't even need to be nice and/or expensive. You just need that special something. Here, I'll rank the top places for a warmth of joy on an otherwise briskly chilled fall Saturday.


5. Ohio Stadium (Ohio State) - Nicknamed The Horseshoe, Ohio Stadium was opened in 1922 and costed roughly $20 million in today's dollars. It's playing surface is turf and it's record attendance is 110,045 fans when the Buckeyes faced their biggest rival, the Michigan Wolverines, on November 26, 2016. The previous record was hit the year before when Ohio State played Michigan State.


4. Tiger Stadium - (LSU) - Nicknamed Death Valley, Tiger Stadium was opened in 1924 and costed roughly $30 million in today's dollars. It's playing surface is celebration bermuda grass and it's record attendance is 102,321 fans, most recently when LSU faced Alabama on November 5, 2016.


3. Bryant-Denny Stadium (Alabama) - Originally just named Denny Stadium until legendary coach "Bear" Bryant came along, Bryant-Denny has played host to a lot of winning recently for Alabama. It was opened in 1929 and cost just $3 million to build. It's playing surface is grass and it has a record gathering of 101,821 people, which is the seventh largest stadium in the United States.


2. Michigan Stadium (Michigan) - Nicknamed The Big House, Michigan Stadium is the largest stadium in the United States and the second largest in the world. It opened in in 1927, with construction costs being around $13 million in today's money. It's playing surface is turf and it has a record attendance of 115,109 people when Michigan took down Notre Dame, 41-30, on September 7, 2013.


1. Rose Bowl (UCLA) - Recognized as a United State national historic landmark, The Rose Bowl takes the cake in best college stadiums. It's main event, The Rose Bowl Game, is coined The Granddaddy of Them All because it is widely recognized as the best bowl game. The stadium has played host to the game since 1923 with the Stadium opening in 1922. UCLA became the only FBS team tenant to the stadium in 1982. The stadium surprisingly only costed around $4 million in today's money. It's playing surface is grass and the record attendance consists of 106,869 people, when USC thrashed Ohio State, 42-17, in the 1973 Rose Bowl.
