CFB: Dawgs Down Gators (Again)

No. 9 Georgia has defeated No. 10 Florida, for the second straight season, and the fifth time in the last eight years. These teams are 5-5 in their last 10 games against one another, but the Bulldogs have started to surpass their rival down south. Coming into the game, both teams had just one loss and had hopes for an SEC title berth and possibly an appearance in the College Football Playoff. QB Jake Fromm had a lot of people questioning his starting job after his Week 7 performance against LSU, in which the Bulldogs lost their third game in Fromm's tenure. He quieted some of the whispers with a great performance in this one, going for 240 yards and three touchdowns on 70.8 percent passing. Fromm also didn't turn the ball over at all.

Georgia is one of the best teams in the country when their offense is clicking, and part of the reason Fromm was able to make throws downfield was because the running game improved. RB D'Andre Swift went for 104 yards on 12 carries for an average of 8.7 yards per carry, including a trip to the end zone. TE Isaac Nauta came up big as well, catching five balls for 73 yards. After getting out to a 10-0 lead, though, Georgia did let the Gators back into the game, and even trailed 14-13 early in the second half. QB Feleipe Franks didn't look very good, going for just 105 yards, with a touchdown and an interception, but the Georgia defense was swarming all day long. The Bulldogs added 13 points in the fourth quarter to win 36-17.

Georgia (7-1, 5-1) is still in control of their own destiny as they have just one loss in conference and are tied at the top of the SEC East. The other team at the top is Kentucky (7-1, 5-1), and those two teams face off in Lexington this upcoming weekend. The winner of that will all but clinch the SEC East title and will continue to be alive in terms of reaching the CFP. Florida (6-2, 4-2), on the other hand, only has two losses but they're to Georgia and Kentucky. It's certainly been an improvement for the Gators, but they seem to be a couple years away from competing for a conference championship. Georgia, the defending SEC champion, will head to play Kentucky, before finishing the season with three home games against unranked opponents.
