NBA: The best CP3 trade packages
Milwaukee gives Giannis the point guard he needs: The Bucks have disappointed and underperformed in the last two playoffs to say the least, failing to reach the NBA Finals despite having the best overall record. In the last two years, Milwaukee has gone 116-39 in the regular season and just 15-10 in the postseason. To me, that would be enough to make a major deal and I think Paul would make this team the favorites to win the Eastern Conference, even with Brooklyn's expected resurgence. The Bucks would send a haul to OKC, including both point guards Eric Bledsoe ($15.6 million) and George Hill, as well as Donte DiVincenzo, Ersan Ilyasova, Robin Lopez, and DJ Wilson. I know it's a lot to give up but I think Milwaukee should seriously consider it.
Bucks projected lineup:
PG: Chris Paul
SG: Wesley Matthews
SF: Khris Middleton
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo
C: Brook Lopez
The 76ers decide to move Ben Simmons off the ball: Philadelphia has struggled with identity for the last few years, and I think that is a reason they've struggled in the playoffs. If Elton Brand made this deal, at least the 76ers would have a clear direction with Paul running the show. It's certainly a risk and it could be limiting Ben Simmons' offensive versatility to a degree, but it could also open up something that we haven't seen from Philly yet. Joel Embiid would benefit greatly from having such an experienced and tactical point guard on his side, while Simmons could be even more dangerous on the break. The 76ers would have to convince OKC to take Al Horford's contract ($28 million), but they'd get two promising youngsters: Shake Milton and Matisse Thybulle.
76ers projected lineup:
PG: Chris Paul
SG: Josh Richardson
SF: Ben Simmons
PF: Tobias Harris
C: Joel Embiid
New York sells seats, competes for a playoff berth: The Knicks aren't one player away from competing for a championship like the Bucks and 76ers, but Paul would still help immensely. Not only would he give the team a little more juice, but the 15-year-old vet would be able to help mold the up-and-coming players like Frank Ntilikina, Mitchell Robinson, and whoever they draft 8th overall. The Knicks would have to part ways with Julius Randle ($18 million), Elfrid Payton ($8 million), and RJ Barrett ($7.8 million). That might be too high of an asking price, but I don't see OKC doing this unless they get Barrett in return. The Knicks would have an opportunity to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2013 but would that be worth it?
Knicks projected lineup:
PG: Chris Paul
SG: Reggie Bullock
SF: Patrick Williams (projected pick)
PF: Bobby Portis
C: Mitchell Robinson
The Suns go for a championship in the next three years: Phoenix showed a lot of promise in the bubble, going 8-0 despite missing the playoffs, and a lot of people expect them to compete for a playoff spot next season as is. But what if they dealt for Chris Paul? He would immediately give them an outside chance to compete for a title. In order to get the deal done, Phoenix would have to part ways with a pair of starters Ricky Rubio ($16.2 million) and Kelly Oubre ($15.6 million), and likely Cameron Johnson ($4 million). Paul, who is 35-years-old, averaged 17.6 points and 6.7 assists this past season, but is scheduled to make $41.4 million next year. If I were James Jones, I'd consider this offer but I don't think I'd be able to pull the trigger.
Suns projected lineup:
PG: Chris Paul
SG: Devin Booker
SF: Mikal Bridges
PF: Dario Šarić
C: DeAndre Ayton
