Indiana Hoosiers quarterback Fernando Mendoza was named the 2025 Heisman Trophy winner on Saturday in New York! Mendoza put together a truly historic campaign, setting a school-record and leading the nation with 33 passing touchdowns to go with 3,220 total yards and six rushing touchdowns, while powering Indiana to the first undefeated regular season in program history — which culminated with the Hoosiers taking home the Big Ten championship for the first time since 1967 and earning the top seed in the upcoming College Football Playoff.

Mendoza became the first Indiana player to win the Heisman Trophy, finishing with 885 votes and beating out Vanderbilt Commodores quarterback Diego Pavia (705 votes), Notre Dame Fighting Irish running back Jeremiyah Love (470 votes), Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Julian Sayin (298 votes) and Texas Tech Red Raiders linebacker Jacob Rodriguez (205 votes). “I’m at a loss for words so. It's a product of a family, team, community and a whole lot of people who believed in me long before anybody knew my name," Mendoza said in his acceptance speech.
