HSBB: Lund talks offers, senior year

Updated: Aug 18, 2021

Blake Lund is headed into his senior season at Linden High School as the 18th ranked player in the 2021 class. The 6’1 combo guard has been showing a lot of improvement in recent years and has become an efficient playmaker and scorer. He has received scholarship offers from Michigan-Dearborn and Concordia.

“I am very fortunate to have been offered by coach (Taylor) Langley at UM Dearborn. The culture of the program at the university combined with the academic opportunities are huge advantages for me,” Lund told me. “My plan post high school is very much set, I am diligently looking for the best fit to execute this plan.”

Lund also went on to discuss his Concordia offer: “Coach (Ricky) Yahn has always been really good to me. I have been on campus a few times for summer showcase events. And at this point the basketball program is a perfect fit. I just have to make sure the academics offered at Concordia work out for me.”

The Linden guard is a consistent 3-point shooter, a great decision maker, and can make a lot of difficult shots. “I have several aspects of my game I have been working hard on and am looking to incorporate this season,” he said. “The biggest weakness in my game has been playing above the rim. It is a goal of mine to work on that this off season.”

Lund also explained what his goals are heading into his senior campaign: “My first goal is to have a season free of COVID-19 related issues. As a team, we are hungry for the Flint Metro League Championship, District championship, and make a statement in regionals.” He continued by talking about his teammates.

“At Linden we have several guards capable of initiating the offense. Reichen Lund, Eli Beil, and Shane Eberhard and my style of game compliment each other perfectly. Next season we will add Matt Wisniewski and Brandon Green as our inside presence, with Gavin Wildeman in the wing. Each of us really do enjoy competing together.”

Lund, who is the 11th ranked senior guard in the state, believes his biggest strengths are his defensive ability and his willingness to do whatever it takes to win. During quarantine, Lund has used his free time to work on his game and his body. He has spent a lot of time weight lifting, as well as increasing his explosiveness and athleticism.

“These are really sad times. A lot of people are sick, losing their jobs, and very uncertain what the future holds,” Lund explained. “Most of my day is spent on my backyard basketball court. A bulk of this time has been spent weight training to add good mass, speed and agility exercises to improve my explosiveness and athleticism."
