CBB: Ranking the last 10 title games

Chas Post

1. Villanova-North Carolina (2016): Although there are some other incredible games to follow, this was the clear choice for the best national title game of the last 10 years. Villanova and North Carolina played one of the best games I've ever watched live and both Marcus Paige and Kris Jenkins made legendary shots. The latter being a game-winning 3-pointer to give the Wildcats a 77-74 victory. Jenkins had 14 points and the unforgettable buzzer beater.

2. Duke-Butler (2010): In the first championship game of last decade, the Blue Devils and Bulldogs did not disappoint. This was Butler's first Cinderella run and they carried it all the way to the final seconds of the national title game, where Gordon Hayward barely missed a half court buzzer beater. It was a back-and-forth game that saw both teams play their best for stretches. Kyle Singler finished with 19 points and nine rebounds in the 61-59 triumph.

3. Virginia-Texas Tech (2019): The most recent title game in our memory was also one of the best in recent memory. After being the first ever #1 seed to lose to a #16 seed in 2018, Virginia capped off their comeback story the following season in thrilling overtime fashion versus Texas Tech. DeAndre Hunter had 27 points and nine rebounds, including a game-tying 3-pointer late in regulation. Virginia won 85-77 to finish the season with a 35-3 record.

4. Duke-Wisconsin (2015): I feel like this season is much more remembered for Wisconsin upsetting Kentucky in the Final Four two days prior, but the national championship game went down to the wire as well. Duke finished up on top, 68-63, after Tyus Jones connected on a 3-pointer to seal the victory with 1:20 left. He finished with 23 points and five rebounds in the win. The Blue Devils finished 35-4 as they beat the Badgers twice that year.

5. Louisville-Michigan (2013): This was a very good game, but it's mostly remember for a couple things: 1) Trey Burke being called for a questionable foul on Peyton Siva in the second half and even more importantly, 2) Luke Hancock absolutely taking over, finishing with 22 points and three assists. Michigan tried to battle back after Burke's foul call but the Cardinals were too much, taking a tight one 82-76, to finish 35-5 on the season.

6. North Carolina-Gonzaga (2017): North Carolina seemed like they were on a mission all year after being denied the in 2016 by Villanova. With that said, though, Gonzaga came to play and even led 35-32 at halftime. Justin Jackson came out in the second half and helped the Tar Heels win 71-65, capping it off with a breakaway dunk to seal the deal. He had 16 points in the victory. Joel Berry added a game-high 22 points, six assists, and three rebounds.

7. UConn-Kentucky (2014): Even though the 2014 UConn team is the worst champion on this list, the game against Kentucky was still exciting and went back-and-forth for a long time. The Huskies ended up on top, winning 60-54 as Shabazz Napier helped take over, scoring 22 points and six rebounds to earn his second title in four years. UConn, a #7 seed, finished the season 32-8, while the Wildcats fell short of John Calipari's second championship.

8. Kentucky-Kansas (2012): The final three games on this list are clearly the worst but at least we got to see Anthony Davis and Kentucky finish off their historic season. Davis wasn't his normal self, scoring just six points, but he still found a way to have a major impact, compiling 16 points, six blocks, five assists, and three steals. The Wildcats finished 38-2 and defeated Kansas, 67-59, for the second time that year.

9. Villanova-Michigan (2018): It was hard to decide which game was worse between Villanova-Michigan and UConn-Butler but this game we witnessed Donte DiVincenzo catch fire, scoring 31 points and five rebounds off the bench for Villanova, which was better than anything that happened in UConn's victory. Michigan got out to an early 21-14 lead before DiVincenzo took over, helping his team win 79-62, clinching their second title in three years.

10. UConn-Butler (2011): Kemba Walker led UConn on a magical run in 2011, winning the Maui Invitational, the Big East Tournament, and the NCAA Tournament, but the final game of their season was pretty boring. Walker poured in a solid 16 points and nine rebounds and Jeremy Lamb had a few impressive moments, but neither team was able to find any rhythm offensively as they combined to shoot 26.1% from the field and 23.3% from 3-point range.
