MLB: Monthly Power Rankings
1. Houston Astros (29-15, +1): The Astros are starting to run away with the AL West as they are eight games above the second place Seattle Mariners. Houston is the best team in the league at this point in the season, and the statistics show just that. They are 16-4 on their home field and have a +87 run differential, which is the best in the league by 25 runs over the Tampa Bay Rays. The Astros have also won eight games in a row.
2. Los Angeles Dodgers (29-16, +3): The Dodgers are just 10-10 on the road, but they've been absolutely dominant at home. They are 19-6 on their field, and have a +58 run differential. They have scored 235 runs, which is the most in the National League, and have given up just 177 runs, which is the third least. The Dodgers have also been playing really well lately, as their record in the last 10 outings is 7-3 and they've won three straight matchups.
3. Chicago Cubs (25-16, +8): The Cubs got off to a really slow start to the season, and it had a lot of people worried if they could even compete with the best teams in the league anymore. However, it seems they've gotten everything fixed, and the Cubs now have a +53 run differential. That's second best in the National League, just behind the Dodgers. Chicago's starting rotation has absolutely locked the opponents down as they've allowed only 163 runs.
4. Philadelphia Phillies (24-19, +0): The Phillies continued to look like one of the top teams in the National League and are expected to reach the playoffs after just barely missing it last season. After starting 12-8, Philadelphia has only continued to grow as a team and they're five games about .500 now. The Phillies are 15-10 at home and are 1.5 games above the Atlanta Braves and 3.5 games up on the New York Mets. Philly is just 5-5 in their last 10 appearances.
5. Minnesota Twins (28-15, +7): The Twins were a middling team for the beginning of the year, as they weren't even in our top-10 teams last month. Approximately four weeks later, and it looks like Minnesota might be the best team in the AL Central. We'll have to wait and see if the Cleveland Indians can get back to the top, as they trail the Twins by 4.5 games, but for now Minnesota is the clear cut top team. They are 13-7 on the road and have won three straight.
