NASCAR: Why We Love Sports Vol. 2

Caleb Henderson

Here at Sports Posts, our writers have a passion for sports like nothing else, and during our childhood, adolescence, and early adulthood, we've been treated to exhilarating, inspiring, intoxicating, and stimulating sporting events that have created an addiction for each of us. We spend countless hours reading and writing about our favorite athletes - We endlessly debate our contemporaries on who's the Greatest of All-Time - We spend our hard earned dollars to watch our favorite teams face their rivals. And because of that, each one of us decided to put together our five most memorable moments that started that fascination for athletics, competition, and sports.

HERE ARE CALEB HENDERSON'S TOP MOMENTS:

1. Daytona 500 (2007): This was the first NASCAR race I ever watched, and luckily for me, it was one of the best Daytona 500's of all-time. It featured a surprise pole winner, numerous crazy wrecks, and a photo finish to cap it all off. Needless to say, I found my favorite driver at the time in this race (David Ragan) and I fell in love with the sport.

2. Super Bowl XLI (2007): This was the first football game I ever watched, and while I don't remember much from the actual game, I just remember becoming a Peyton Manning fan and football becoming my favorite sport afterwards. Manning's Indianapolis Colts rebounded from a rough start to down the Chicago Bears, 29-17, and become world champions! Manning went 25-38 for 247 yards, and one touchdown.

3. Ford EcoBoost 400 (2011): After being bullied in middle school for watching NASCAR, I decided this would be the last race I'd watch for a while. Needless to say, it didn't disappoint. This was one of the best championship battles in the sport's history between Tony Stewart and Carl Edwards, and I remember pulling for Edwards to win the title really hard. In the end, the points race ended in a tie, but Stewart won the race and that was the tiebreaker to determine the championship. It was one of the best races I've ever seen and it's a shame I stopped watching the sport for three years because I cared what others thought about me watching it.

4. Super Bowl XLII (2008): While I didn't have an attachment to either of these teams, looking back I didn't realize the magnitude of this game at the time. The New England Patriots had a chance to become the second team to reach perfection, and because this was my first full season watching football I thought this would happen again. Needless to say, no team has come close to doing this again. This was also simply a great game in general, featuring the "Helmet Catch" by David Tyree and the Giants pulling off one of the biggest upsets in NFL History.
