The No. 21 Miami Redhawks stormed back to beat the Western Michigan Broncos 69-67 to keep their unbeaten season alive as guard Trey Perry scored a buzzer-beating layup at University Arena on Friday!
It appeared the Redhawks were going to suffer their first loss of the season, trailing 30-26 at halftime and 61-53 with just 5:43 to go, before finishing the game on a 16-6 run to survive and remain undefeated.
Perry came up clutch in his first career start, scoring 14 points including the game-winning basket with 0.4 seconds to go. Miami forward Almar Atlason also played a key role, adding 16 points off the bench.
Atlason scored nine straight points to cut the deficit to 63-62 with just over three minutes left, followed by forward Antwone Woolfolk sinking a go-ahead shot to cap a 13-4 run and put the Redhawks up 66-65.
Western Michigan guard Justice Williams drilled a game-tying shot to tie it 67-67 with 12.8 seconds remaining, but Perry answered on the other end to push the Redhawks to 29-0 and 16-0 in MAC play.
"We're just resilient. Our guys find a way. We have a lot of depth and our guys are capable. Trey is tough. He's made for those moments," Miami head coach Travis Steele said following the last-second win.
