NBA: Tracking the trade deadline as Capela, Iguodala, Russell, and Wiggins are on the move
Grizzlies trade Andre Iguodala to Heat for Justise Winslow: Andre Iguodala (12.1 points, 5.1 rebounds) has finally been traded from the Memphis Grizzlies to the Miami Heat. It was understood that Iguodala would be dealt sometime before the deadline but most people believed he would end up with either the Clippers or Lakers. Instead, the Heat get themselves a very experienced player who excels at perimeter defense. The Grizzlies get Justise Winslow (11.3 points, 6.6 rebounds) and Dion Waiters in return.
Rockets trade Clint Capela to Hawks for Robert Covington: Clint Capela (13.9 points, 13.8 rebounds) was surprisingly dealt from the Houston Rockets to the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday, Feb. 5. In return, Houston gets forward Robert Covington (12.8 points, 6.0 rebounds) from the Minnesota Timberwolves. It's clear that the Rockets have decided they are going full small-ball, getting rid of their starting center and not acquiring one before the deadline. Minnesota also gets Malik Beasley in this deal.
Timberwolves trade Andrew Wiggins to Warriors for D'Angelo Russell: Minnesota was also involved in another deal as they dealt Andrew Wiggins (22.4 points, 5.2 rebounds) to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for one-time All-Star D'Angelo Russell (23.6 points, 6.2 assists). It seems like Golden State was never interested in keeping Russell long term and now the Timberwolves get their man to pair with Karl-Anthony Towns. Minnesota also gets Omari Spellman, while Golden State gets two draft picks.
Warriors trade Alec Burks to 76ers for three draft picks: Golden State also decided to get rid of Alec Burks (16.1 points, 4.7 rebounds), who is having a career year, as they send him east to the Philadelphia 76ers. Glenn Robinson III (12.9 points, 4.7 rebounds) will also be sent to the 76ers. The Warriors are getting three picks in return for giving up the two double-digit scorers as they will get a second round pick in 2020, 2021, and 2022 from the Mavericks, Nuggets, and Raptors, respectively.
Hawks trade Jabari Parker to Kings for Dewayne Dedmon: Jabari Parker (15.0 points, 6.0 rebounds), the former #2 overall pick, is being shipped to the Sacramento Kings for Dewayne Dedmon (5.1 points, 4.9 rebounds). Dedmon will be returning to the Atlanta Hawks, where he played from 2018-19. Neither team makes a monumental change with this deal but the Kings get more scoring while the Hawks drop Parker's contract. The Kings also received big man Alex Len, while Atlanta gets a pair of picks.
Pistons trade Andre Drummond to Cavaliers for Brandon Knight: This might have been the most surprising deal of the deadline. It was obvious that the Pistons were trying to get rid of Andre Drummond (17.8 points, 15.8 rebounds) and his enormous contract but we thought he'd end up with the Celtics, Mavericks, or Rockets. Even now, the deal doesn't really make sense either way. Detroit gets point guard Brandon Knight (4.9 points, 1.9 assists), power forward John Henson, and a second round pick.
Knicks trade Marcus Morris to Clippers for Maurice Harkless: The last major deal of the deadline was the Clippers acquiring Marcus Morris (19.6 points, 5.4 rebonds) while trading Maurice Harkless (5.5 points, 4.0 rebounds) and Jerome Robinson to the Knicks and Wizards, respectively. Los Angeles also got point guard Isaiah Thomas in this deal but it's reported that they will buy him out. The Clippers were looking to add depth with the playoffs on the horizon and we think they were able to do just that.
