The Detroit Tigers staved off elimination by storming back from an early deficit to beat the Seattle Mariners 9-3 and tie the series 2-2 in Game 4 of the ALDS at Comerica Park on Wednesday. Seattle jumped out to a 3-0 lead but the Tigers responded with three runs in the fifth inning and four runs in the sixth inning to stay alive and force a Game 5 in Seattle on Friday.

It appeared the Tigers were going to be eliminated until catcher Dillon Dingler, outfielder Jahmai Jones and shortstop Javier Baez recorded three straight RBI in the fifth inning to tie the game. Then, left fielder Riley Greene sent the home crowd into a frenzy with a go-ahead solo home run to seize a 4-3 advantage in the sixth inning and Detroit never looked back.

Baez capped off his four-RBI showing with a two-run homer and second baseman Gleyber Torres drilled a home run of his own to put the finishing touches on the season-saving victory. Now, the series heads back to Seattle for a decisive Game 5 and Tigers star pitcher Tarik Skubal will have a chance to advance to the ALCS for the first time since 2013.

ALDS schedule

Game 2: Mariners 3-2
