MLB: Nationals knock out Cardinals
The Washington Nationals (93-69, 8-2) have knocked out the St. Louis Cardinals (91-71, 3-6) in a historic sweep that sends the Nationals to the World Series for the first time in franchise history. Washington took the first two games on the road behind incredibly strong pitching performances from Anibal Sanchez (7.2 IP, 1 H) and Max Scherzer (7.0 IP, 1 H) before returning home. In Washington, the Nationals offense improved and scored 15 runs in the two outings. Game 3 saw an 8-1 victory behind Howie Kendrick (3/4, 3 RBI), while Game 4 was won after a seven-run first inning, including multiple hits from Trea Turner (2/4, 2 RBI) and Juan Soto. Somehow, the Cardinals didn't lead during this series for even one pitch. It was complete domination as the Nationals starting pitchers allowed a 1.35 ERA.
