NFL: Lions deal Stafford for Goff, picks

“With the number one pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions select Matthew Stafford, University of Georgia"

In my opinion, the most memorable moment from Matthew Stafford was during his rookie year against the Cleveland Browns. In the final moment of that game, Detroit was down six points and Stafford got absolutely rocked. A flag was thrown, though, and he was eventually helped off the field. On the sideline, Stafford was down on the ground when Detroit called a timeout. There were seconds remaining in the game as he realized he could return to the game after the timeout. The former #1 overall pick ran onto the field and threw the game-winning touchdown as time expired. This was the game that we knew Matthew Stafford was a great player. Unfortunately, he never had much help, and the Lions only made the playoffs three times during his tenure (2011, 2014, 2016). Nonetheless, Stafford is Detroit’s all-time passing leader with 45,109 yards, 282 touchdowns and a 62.2% completion rate. I am excited to see Stafford grow in LA with Sean McVay and the Rams, and see what else he can accomplish on his drive to Canton.
