NBA: 2021 Mock Draft 1.0
1. Minnesota Timberwolves: Cade Cunningham (PG/Oklahoma State): Cunningham has been the #1 prospect in the 2021 class for over a year and deservedly so. The 6’8 point guard controls the game better than anyone his age as he’s averaged 18.6 points and 6.1 rebounds during his freshman year at OK State. He is also hitting 44.6% of his 3-point attempts. Minnesota doesn’t really need another guard but it’d be hard to pass on Cade Cunningham.
NBA Comp: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
2. Detroit Pistons: Evan Mobley (C/USC): Mobley is going to be the first center drafted as the 7’0 big man has impressed during his first season at USC. He has scored the ball effectively and efficiently, averaging 16.8 points on 60% shooting from the field. Meanwhile, Mobley’s been better on defense than advertised as he earns 3.1 blocks and 9.0 rebounds per game. Detroit is in need of a center and Mobley is a sure fire top-five pick.
NBA Comp: Chris Boucher
3. Cleveland Cavaliers: Jalen Green (SG/Ignite): Green is the first of the four draft picks from the G-League Ignite as we have him being drafted by the Cavaliers. He's averaging 17.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game but is hitting just 30.4% of his 3-point attempts. Cleveland seems to be building around Collin Sexton, Darius Garland, and Jarrett Allen, and Green would slip in perfectly on the wing. Koby Altman will also consider Jonathan Kuminga and Jalen Suggs.
NBA Comp: Zach LaVine
4. Washington Wizards: Jonathan Kuminga (SF/Ignite): Kuminga follows his teammate as the projected fourth pick to the Wizards. It seems like only a matter of time that Washington moves on from Bradley Beal and possibly Russell Westbrook down the road, and Kuminga could be the new face of the franchise. The 6’8 forward is putting up 18.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game on 41.5% shooting from the field so far this year.
NBA Comp: Jerami Grant
5. Oklahoma City Thunder: Jalen Suggs (PG/Gonzaga): Suggs is the second point guard off the draft board as he’s helped put Gonzaga atop the college basketball rankings, while scoring 14.2 points, 4.4 assists, and 2.2 steals per game on 36.5% shooting from 3-point range. The 6’4 point guard could play alongside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander with the Thunder in the future as Oklahoma City continues to rebuild around a talented core and a boatload of draft picks.
NBA Comp: Ja Morant
