MLB: Wild card, division series predictions
Wild Card: Oct. 5-6
For the first time ever, the Boston Red Sox will host the New York Yankees in the AL Wild Card at 8:00 PM on Tuesday, Oct. 5 at Fenway Park. Gerrit Cole (16-8, 3.23 ERA) and Nathan Eovaldi have been announced as the starters, with Aaron Judge and Rafael Devers (38 HR, 113 RBI) leading the way at the plate. A night later, the Los Angeles Dodgers face the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Wild Card at 8:10 PM on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at Dodger Stadium. Adam Wainwright (17-7, 3.05 ERA) and Max Scherzer are the probable starting pitchers. According to CBS Sports, Max Muncy will likely miss the game after a left elbow injury. Los Angeles will have to lean on Justin Turner (27 HR, .278 BA) and even more now.
- Yankees over Red Sox (5-3)
- Dodgers over Cardinals (4-3)
Division Series: Oct. 7-14
Following the wild card matchups, the ALDS will get started on Thursday night when the Houston Astros meet the Chicago White Sox before the top seed Tampa Bay Rays take on Boston or New York. I'm predicting Tampa Bay and Houston will advance to the ALCS. Brandon Lowe (39 HR, 99 RBI) and Yordan Alvarez are a couple players to watch. The MLB-best San Francisco Giants await their opponent as well, followed by the Milwaukee Brewers versus the Atlanta Braves on Friday. It's hard to pick against the Giants but I'm going with the Dodgers and Braves to reach the NLCS. Max Fried and Walker Buehler (16-4, 2.47) had great years and have a chance to help lead their teams to a deep playoff run.
- Rays over Yankees (3-2)
- Astros over White Sox (3-1)
- Dodgers over Giants (3-2)
- Braves over Brewers (3-2)
