Los Angeles Chargers dominate Detroit Lions 34-7 in 2025 Hall of Fame Game preseason opener

The Los Angeles Chargers dominated the Detroit Lions 34-7 in the 2025 NFL Hall of Fame Game preseason opener at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium tonight! Trey Lance led Los Angeles with 120 passing yards and two touchdowns in his Chargers debut.

After forcing a turnover on the first play of the game, the Chargers took a 7-0 lead behind a touchdown pass from Lance. Just moments later, Kimani Vidal extended the lead to 14-0 with a touchdown rush following an interception from Nikko Reed.

Los Angeles forced five turnovers in the blowout win as the Lions struggled to find a rhythm offensively. Craig Reynolds scored a touchdown to get Detroit within 14-7 before Lance hit KeAndre Lambert-Smith to take a 21-7 advantage into the locker room.

In the final minutes of the fourth quarter, the Chargers put the finishing touches on the win as Vidal scored a second touchdown of the game to help Los Angeles officially kick off Jim Harbaugh's second season with an impressive performance and a statement win.

"I've been feeling like we have a lot of players that have been ascending in practice and I couldn't wait to see them play in a real game," Harbaugh told the media in a postgame press conference. "It was a good start. We'll go back and keep building."

It was only fitting that the Chargers picked up a memorable win in the annual preseason opener with Antonio Gates set to be inducted into the Hall of Fame this weekend! Gates was one of the best players in Chargers history following a record-setting career!
