The Detroit Pistons took down the defending NBA Finals champion Boston Celtics 117-97 to secure an eighth straight win and clinch the longest win streak since 2008 on Wednesday at Little Caesars Arena! Cade Cunningham posted 21 points and 11 assists, and Malik Beasley went off for a team-high 26 points including 6/11 from 3-point range in the win.
After jumping out to a 13-2 advantage in the opening minutes of the matchup, the Pistons took a 29-20 lead into the second quarter before the Celtics answered with a barrage of 3-pointers to comeback and tie it at halftime. It appeared the Detroit crowd could be in store for a tight finish until the Pistons exploded for a dominant 35-point third quarter to pull away.
Detroit eventually cruised to an eighth consecutive win and ended a 12-game losing streak against Boston. The Pistons improved to 33-26 and will try to keep the recent win streak going against the Denver Nuggets on Friday night. Jayson Tatum totaled 27 points and six rebounds in the loss as the Celtics fell to 42-17 with their first loss since early February.
