Detroit Catholic Central opens state title defense with 55-0 steamroll over Chippewa Valley in 2026 Amazon Prep Kickoff Classic

The defending state champion Detroit Catholic Central Shamrocks steamrolled the Chippewa Valley Big Reds 55-0 in the 2026 Amazon Prep Kickoff Classic opener at Tom Adams Field in Detroit on Thursday!

Detroit Catholic Central jumped out to a 21-0 lead in a blink as 2027 4-star defensive back and Texas Tech commit Gideon Gash grabbed an interception and sprinted to the end zone for a touchdown.

The onslaught didn’t stop there as the Shamrocks took a 41-0 lead into halftime following two touchdown passes from 2027 3-star quarterback Duke Banta, and a 48-yard punt return touchdown by Gash.

Detroit Catholic Central eventually cruised to a 55-0 win over Chippewa Valley, securing a 15th straight victory and opening the state championship defense with a statement win in the annual showcase.

"We focused on our process and working hard," Detroit Catholic Central head coach Justin Cessante said. "These guys want their own identity. We wanted to set the tone for the season and sure did."
