CBB: Gonzaga wins Fort Myers title

The Gonzaga Bulldogs (2-0) defeated 6th ranked Kansas and Auburn to take home the Fort Myers Tip-Off title on Friday, Nov. 27. Mark Few's team took down the Jayhawks, 102-90, in the season opener behind Jalen Suggs' 24 points, eight assists, and four rebounds. The freshman phenom wasn't alone, though, as Drew Timme and Joel Ayayi combined for 40 points and 15 rebounds to advance to the championship game.
Corey Kispert and Timme led the way against Auburn, as Gonzaga jumped out to a 14-point by halftime before winning 90-67. Kispert had 25 points on 50% shooting from 3-point range, while Timme totaled 28 points and 10 rebounds on 68.8% shooting from the field. In the two wins, Gonzaga shot 58.5% and forced 32 turnovers. Kansas defeated St. Joseph's, 94-72, in the third place game behind a combined 48 points from Christian Braun and Ochai Agbaji.
According to a Sports Illustrated report, Gonzaga was without two players (Dominick Harris and Julian Strawther) in the Fort Myers tournament due to COVID-19 and they also had their next game against Tennessee cancelled. The Bulldogs will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 7 PM against 15th ranked West Virginia before taking on 2nd ranked Baylor on Saturday afternoon. They also start West Coast Conference play on Saturday, Jan. 2 versus San Francisco.
