The Akron Zips take on the Eastern Michigan Eagles with an opportunity to keep pace in the MAC regular season title race at the George Gervin GameAbove Center on Tuesday. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Zips are 11.5-point favorites over the Eagles with the over/under placed at 153.5 total points.
Akron comes into to the game with an 18-4 record and 9-1 mark in MAC play, riding an 8-game win streak after falling to the unbeaten Miami Redhawks last month. The Zips are led by guard Tavari Johnson (MAC-best 20.3 points), guard Shammah Scott and Ohio State transfer forward Evan Mahaffey.
Eastern Michigan enters the game with a 9-14 mark and 3-7 clip in MAC play. The Eagles also fueled by forward Mohammad Habhab (team-high 14.3 points) as well as Oregon transfer forward Addison Patterson. Eastern Michigan will be without guard Carlos Hart, who was charged in the NCAA betting scandal.
The Zips have completely owned the all-time series between the MAC opponents, recording a 30-8 mark against Eastern Michigan including a 16-4 record in the last 20 matchups. Akron is just one game behind Miami for first place in the MAC standings so the Zips can't afford to suffer a loss at Eastern Michigan.
