NFL: Mock Draft Vol. 3
1. Browns: Sam Darnold QB/USC: It's been known that the Cleveland Browns are targeting a franchise quarterback with the top overall pick, despite trading for former Buffalo Bills' QB Tyrod Taylor earlier this month. Darnold seems to be the most obvious choice here and the Browns will actually have some QB depth for the first time in over a decade.
2. Giants: Saquon Barkley HB/Penn State: After declaring that they are going to bring back Eli Manning, it seems like the Giants are going to go after a non-QB with this spot. The best player available has to be Barkley. He dominated the college game with the ability to catch, run, and return. His agility and speed will be greatly appreciated in New York.
3. Jets (via Colts): Josh Allen QB/Wyoming: The other New York team, the Jets, just traded up from the No. 6 spot to the No. 3 pick on Saturday morning, with a swap with the Indianapolis Colts. The Jets just signed Teddy Bridgewater, which will help them to usher in a rookie signal caller. Many thought it could be Baker Mayfield, but now Allen seems realistic.
4. Browns (via Texans): Bradley Chubb DE/N.C. State: With their second selection in the top four picks, the Browns would be smart to grab a player on the opposite side of the ball. Bradley Chubb is a stud on the defensive line and would be a nightmare for a ton of teams, joining the former No. 1 overall pick Myles Garrett.
5. Broncos: Josh Rosen QB/UCLA: We're really starting to see a trend as three of the top five teams just traded or signed a quarterback and are still looking to draft one as well. It never hurts to have two QBs up your sleeve, just ask the Minnesota Vikings. John Elway's team signed Case Keenum, but could still bring in Rosen, as the rookie would sit to start his career.
6. Colts (via Jets): Quentin Nelson G/Notre Dame: The Colts traded down to the six spot via the aforementioned trade with the Jets, and it seems likely that they're going to use this pick to acquire someone to help protect their franchise QB, Andrew Luck, who has a long line of injury concerns. Nelson seems like the obvious option here to improve the offensive line.
7. Buccaneers: Derwin James S/Florida State: A year ago, many people were thinking that James was going to be the top pick in this draft, but because of an influx of quarterbacks, he has slid a bit. Tampa Bay's defense was nothing short of abysmal last season and any addition would help. James has a ton of potential and plays with an incredibly high motor.
8. Bears: Calvin Ridley WR/Alabama: The Bears found their franchise quarterback Mitchell Trubisky with the No. 2 pick last spring, and now it's time to get him some more help on the outside. Ridley is the best wideout in this class so it'd be shocking if the Bears were to look elsewhere with a WR. If they decide to go defensively, watch for Minkah Fitzpatrick here.
9. 49ers: Courtland Sutton WR/SMU: I think the Niners would love for Ridley to slide one more spot and come to them, but Sutton isn't a bad secondary option by any means. San Fran has Jimmy Garoppolo at the QB spot and signed him to a big deal during the offseason so it seems that they're going to try and add more depth to a dangerous offense.
10. Raiders: Denzel Ward CB/Ohio State: Jon Gruden is starting to bring in some talented players like Doug Martin and Jordy Nelson and that trend would continue if he were to go get a guy like Ward from Ohio State. He is one of the top defensive backs in this class and would be another addition to what is already considered a top tier defense.
