CBB: Marvin Bagley III Signs with Duke
On Monday, August 14, 2017, Marvin Bagley III decided to reclassify to the 2017 recruiting class and attend Duke University in the fall, spurning Arizona, Kentucky, UCLA, USC, and others that had been recruiting him over the last couple of years.
Bagley's on-court ability is tantalizing. He's a 6'10" forward who shows the ability to protect the rim at a high level. His athleticism should enable him to switch out on guards at the next level, be effective at hedging and showing, and successfully defend multiple actions.
He also plays with a high motor, which manifests itself in his ability to rebound the ball. Offensively, he shows the ability to face up and attack off the dribble, knock down jumpers both off the catch and off the dribble, and finish above the rim. Bagley also has more polish than the average 18-year-old.
His one-legged fadeaway is already a go-to move, and he showcases a couple of other reliable moves, which most top prospects lack. As far as prospects go, Bagley III is as complete as it gets. If all goes as it should, he should find himself as one of the No. 1 draft picks next summer, in the 2018 NBA Draft. Bagley's addition to Duke should make them the preseason No. 1 team, since they'll be adding Bagley and Trevon Duval to a team that also includes Grayson Allen, Wendell Carter Jr., Marques Bolden, and lots of depth.
