NBA: Game 1 Breakdown

Game 1 of the NBA Finals was thrilling in every way imaginable and it might have been the best chance for the Cleveland Cavaliers to pull off an upset at Oracle Arena. The Golden State Warriors are nearly unstoppable on their home floor, going 8-1 during the postseason, so it's going to be difficult going forward for the Cavs. They got an unbelievable performance out of Lebron James, who dropped 51 points, eight assists, and eight rebounds on 59.4 percent shooting and 90.9 percent from the free throw line, while playing 48 of a possible 53 minutes. James played like a superhuman - not for the first time - but will he be able to do even more? Because even with that said, the Warriors still came out on top and won by 10 points, 124-114, in overtime.

And we can't even really say that James was doing it on his own or that his supporting cast needs to step up, because in reality, the "other Cavaliers" actually played quite well. Kevin Love had 21 points and 13 rebounds. J.R. Smith didn't play incredibly, but his 10 points on 33.3 percent shooting from three-point range isn't that bad. Kyle Korver, George Hill, Jeff Green, Larry Nance Jr., and Tristan Thompson combined for 18 points which obviously needs to improve, but I think the Warriors had a lot of room for improvement too. Kevin Durant was forcing it all night and couldn't find his stroke from deep. He was just 1-7 from outside and despite finishing with 26 points, he took 22 shots to do so.

Durant will probably play better in following games and I'd expect Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson to keep up their great play. Those three totaled 66 points and 20 rebounds. The Dubs just have too many great players so even when one of them isn't playing up to par, there is always going to be another man stepping up successfully. Cleveland saw James put out arguably the best performance in Finals history, and yet they couldn't come away with the victory. You can say that it was refs' fault for changing the charge call to a block or for a couple of questionable calls in the fourth quarter, or the loss could be blamed on Smith's mental lapse or Hill's missed free throw. But at the end of the day, the Warriors are just too talented.
